Coleman SunDome- Shelter for less than a cottage

If you just need a place to store your gear and rest you weary bones after a day of hiking around, then this is a great tent. The 'cooler' door out the back make a perfect place to store those stinky shoes without having to have the door open to let in all the bugs that you just escaped from. While this tent does pack down small enough to put in a backpack, it is better suited for car or base camping.

portable Eureka tent

Eureka Tretragon Ultra-Portable Tent

Coming in 4 pounds lighter and more durable than the Coleman is the Eureka Tetragon tent.If you are looking to use your tent more often than a couple times a season or want to backpack around with at least one other person than this is a solid choice in a tent.

red canyon dome tent

Coleman Red Canyon Modified Dome Tent

This is a great tent if your looking to camp with a group of people, be it a large family, a class trip, or just a lot of gear. While it takes longer to assemble then some other tent models, the 17-Foot by 10-Foot Red Canyon will provide room for up to 8 people to sleep. Like many large tents, the Red Canyon includes dividers to create three separate areas while maintaining good air circulation. Truthfully, it could use another door for its size, but is a good extended dome style tent when you need space.

essential tent kit

Coleman Tent Kit

No one wants their tent to fall down while camping and the stakes that come with most tents are not up the the job.  This set from Coleman ® are better stakes.  Another issue with camping, especially with kids or a pet is the sand, dirt and other debris that enter a tent.  Coleman ® has included a nice little broom and dustpan to clean up a tent. The rubber mallet will insure that each stake is firmly planted in the ground.  Also included is a handy tent stake puller to get those stubborn stakes out of the ground without damaging them.

reinforced tarp

Reinforced Rip-Stop Polyethylene Tarps

Even more important than a tent is a good tarp.  A tarp can be used for shelter, both from the ground and from above.  Tarps can be used as wind stops, they can be used as a shade, they can even be used as a makeshift stretcher is the need should arise.  A tarp is not a piece of equipment that you should even 'cheap out' on.  Make sure that any tarp you do have is re-enforced and has grommets that are plastic or preferably metal.  These tarps should last you years with proper care.
